A Local Law to amend the New York city charter in relation to the qualifications of the commissioner of buildings.
Be it enacted by the Council as follows:
Section 1. Section 641 of the New York city charter, as added by local law number 29 for the year 1977, is amended to read as follows:
§641. Department; commissioner. There shall be a department of buildings, the head of which shall be the commissioner of buildings. [The commissioner shall be a registered architect or a licensed professional engineer in good standing under the education law.]
§2. This local law shall take effect immediately.
